Day Skipper Theory
A comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers.
This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising.
We are continually updating our courses to take into account developments in technology and the electronic navigation aids now available on most cruising boats.
The course is taught over 2 weekends comprising one, two day weekend and one three day weekend.
Students regularly achieve scores of 95% and above on papers which is indicative of Geoff's expertise and enthusiasm for his subject.
Course covers the following:
- the basics of seamanship
- the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage
- plotting a course to steer
- position fixing
- comprehensive introduction to chartwork
- electronic navigation including the use of:
- Chartplotters and GPS
- tidal heights and tidal streams
- buoyage - collision regulations
- meteorology
